Based on the great-circle distnace ( the shortest distance between the two points over the surface of the earth), dam the cities closest to Tadian are Candon, Baguio, San Fernando , Vigan, Tabuk, and Santiago. The nearest municiplities are Bauko, Cervantes, Sabangan, Besao, Sagada and Mankayan. It’s distance from the national capital is 266.68km (165.71 miles).

The Burial Caves

The Burial Caves of barangays Banaao and Am-am are also interesting sights to see especially if you are a historical and cultural lover. These burial caves portray how the I-Tadian buried their dead during the olden days. Certainly, you will be hearing a lot of myths, legends, and folklores surrounding these once you visit them.

NAMADOG SAN KILING

A long time ago, Kabunyan took the form of a kiling (bird) and alighted on top of a mountain overlooking Bana-ao in Tadian. He was observing the people and the place, deciding if he will sow the palay (namadog) there. Suddenly, he saw something that the people practice and judged it as bad and sinful. He decided to fly somewhere else. He flew to a mountain named Am-o and sat there observing again. He looked around, west to east and north to south. He saw ricefields above Bila which they called the pandey. He flew over it and saw that it was good. He then sowed the palay seed called tagaling he was carrying in his beak. Thus, namadog san kiling ed pandey.

SuBaBa Rice Terraces viewed at Bantey, Tadian

SuBaBa Rice Terraces is made by Kabunian according to the “alapos”. Many years pass by the hardworking ancestors of the three barangays of Tadian namely Sumadel, Batayan, and Bantey continue to work until it was become a stairway to heaven. It is just like the Banaue Rice Terraces by the Ifugaos but it’s just only riprapped with stones.

Enchanted Eels found at Cagubatan and Lenga, Tadian.


If you are looking for a mystical encounter in Tadian, then visiting the Enchanted Eels would be a fitting choice. These sacred creatures are located at Barangays Cagubatan and Lenga. According to the locals, the eels have been in their dwelling places for more than a century. They only come out for viewing with the use of a whistle or bait. The locals take care of the eels since they are believed to be connected to the spirit world.
